Nelson Public Libraries are closed - Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a list of the frequently asked questions we have received regarding the library closure. If you have a question about the library closure, please check this list first, and if it is not answered, please contact us

When will the library reopen?

The library will remain closed until at least the end of the COVID-19 Level 4 alert that is scheduled to begin from March 25th. Please check our website and Facebook page for updates, or the COVID-19 website for details about the alert levels.


Can I return my library books during the closure?

No, we will not have staff available to clear and process returns from March 24th onwards. Please keep your library items for the duration of the closure, and return them when the library reopens.


What happens if my books go overdue?

We will not be charging any overdue fees for the duration of the closure. If you receive an overdue notice for something you have out, please disregard it.


I have a reserved book that was waiting for me to pick up. What will happen to it?

We will keep the book on reserve for you until we reopen. We will notify you when you are able to pick up your reserve.


Will I be able to pick up a reserve or have my items delivered to me?

From March 24th onwards, our staff will be observing the New Zealand Government's requirement to isolate themselves, and will not be available to issue items or arrange deliveries. Please visit our online resources page for library services that are available for you while the library is closed.


I want to access an online resource but I do not know my library card number or PIN

Your PIN can be reset online, or by contacting us. Your library card number is the barcode number on the back of your card. If you do not have your card, or the number doesn't work, please contact us.


I went to access an online resource, but my account is blocked, what do I do?

Please create a new Digital Only membership here, (ignore the message that your name is already in use) and you should be able to use the online resources. Then contact us using the email address or online form. Please include any error messages that you have received.


I'm trying to use an online resource but I am having trouble getting it to work. What do I do?

Please contact us using this online form. Please include as much detail as possible. Our staff will contact you and try to help you through the issue.
