The Library Knitters
The Library Knitters group meets every Thursday in the Elma Turner Library from 10 – 12 noon with around eight to eighteen women attending each week. There is also a group that meets at the Nightingale Memorial Library on Mondays between 1.30 and 3.30.
The Nelson group was set up in June 2016 to provide an opportunity for people to meet together and to create baby garments for Plunket Nelson Tasman.
Both groups now produce a wide range of woollen garments including blankets, hats, slippers, booties, vests, cardigans and soft toys.
To date, the Knitters have created just over 2000 garments which have been donated to various groups in the community including the hospital and local kindergartens.
The Knitters are very grateful to the public who provided several large donations of wool in 2018, keeping the Knitters well stocked (so well stocked that no further donations are required at this point!).
Both knitting groups continue in 2019 and new members are always welcome. The Knitters also encourage local organisations in need of garments to reach out – queries can be made to the library by contacting Laura by email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 03 265 6225.
