NZ Music Month 2018
The month of May is filled with NZ Music Month gigs in the Library.
Tuesday 1 May, 12.30 – 1.00pm
This presentation will explore the traditional musical instruments of Māori and will feature Bob Bickerton, Holly Tikao-Weir and Solomon Rahui.
As well as hearing the sounds of the instruments, we will learn the stories about their background and significance in Te Ao Māori.
Wednesday 2 May, 1.00pm – 1.30pm
Rural Mail guarantees a delivery of great New Zealand songs and poems. NZ ballads and folklore played and sung by experienced instrumentalists. Albums will be for sale.
Saturday 5 May, 12.30pm – 1.30pm
Jacquie Walters is a Nelson-based singer-songwriter who has performed internationally & in New Zealand. Her concerts comprise of mostly original material, plus some traditional Scottish songs. She will be joined by musician James Wilkinson.
Polly and the Minstrel
Wednesday 9 May, 12.30pm – 1.00pm
Nathan Torvik & Siobhan Sweeney play a hybrid of jazz, blues, folk, country, with Nathan’s guitar exploding into colourful “virtuosic” lead breaks accompanied by Siobhan on vocals…“A voice of pure Islay Single Malt”. Together they create music with heart.

Mosaic World Choir

Nelson’s Mosaic choir will treat us to NZ and world music sung without accompaniment.
Sunday 27 May, 2.00 – 2.30pm
Soulful, heart-warming songs from a national and international performer who is based in Nelson. His music ranges from gospel, rock, pop and folk.
