NZ Sign Language Week

To celebrate NZ Sign Week a few of our librarians got together to read Kōrero Mai Animals - one of the first children's books to use all three of our national languages!

The Korero Mai series were created by Jenny Chapman who is passionate about connecting with children through words and believes that it's never too early to introduce new languages.

The series focus on family, animals and home, using words that anyone can easily integrate into their daily lives. Each page has a beautiful illustration showing how to perform each sign and displays the word in both English and Te Reo Māori. It's their simplicity makes learning the languages easy and something that people of any age can do together.

We had a lot of fun making this video and hope you enjoy it too. The Korero Mai books are available to borrow from our libraries here.
