Nelson Public Libraries are closed - What you need to know

Following the March 23rd announcement from the New Zealand Government, Nelson Public Libraries will remain closed until further notice. Access to the library branches, all programmes and events, and community bookings will be suspended until we reopen.

If you currently have items checked out from the library, please do not return them until we reopen. You will not incur overdue charges for the duration of the closure. If you receive an overdue notice from the library from March 23rd onwards, please disregard it.

Items that you had requested prior to the library closure will be held, and you can pick them up when we reopen.

While our branches are closed, we still provide access to a number of online resources, including eBooks, newspapers and films. See below for more details.

We will endeavour to keep you updated as the situation develops. Please check our website & Facebook page for future updates.

Accessing Online Services

There are many online services & collections that you can access online, including:

  • eBooks & eAudiobooks
  • Films & TV shows
  • Newspapers and magazines
  • Research databases

To access an online service, you need to login with your Library card and four digit PIN. If you've forgotten your PIN, you can reset your PIN online, or by contacting us.

You might need to create an additional account or download an app to access the different types of content. Please see this page for details of the different types of online content Nelson Public Libraries offer.

Membership for Online Services

You do need to have a membership to access the online services. We are currently offering a Digital Membership for people who do not have a library card. Please see this page to join, and select Digital Only Membership.

Unite Against COVID-19

By working together we can help slow the spread of COVID-19. The best way to protect yourself and others is to practice proper hygiene measures, such as regular hand washing, and limiting your contact with other people as much as possible.

People should phone Healthline on 0800 358 5453 if they have symptoms and have been to countries of concern or if they have been in close contact with someone confirmed with COVID-19.

Please check the Ministry of Health website  and the Unite Against COVID-19 website for more information.
