Spring is Coming to the Children's Library
We have had a very enjoyable winter in the children's library with our Saturday story time sessions, special Starlight Stories evenings, our winter reading challenge and our usual weekly programmes. Spring is just around the corner!
To see us into spring we are starting a monthly board game afternoon on Sundays – the whole family is welcome. We are excited to be working with the Nelson Toy Library who will add to our game collection. Come along to our first session on 26 August 2 – 3.30pm.
Future sessions will run on the 23 September, 28 October and 25 November.
Come and enjoy a magical day of Roald Dahl fun at the Elma Turner Library on September 1st. There will be crafts, quizzes, prizes and more. Don’t miss the Nelson Repertory Theatre’s production of ‘James and the Giant Peach’ at 10am. All welcome – no charge and no bookings required. After the play, spend some time crafting up a storm and testing your Roald Dahl knowledge in our fun quiz.
August is the last month of our Cool Reading Challenge – so get into the library to tell us about the good books you’ve been reading and collect your final puzzle pieces. We hope you enjoyed the challenge!
Our Saturday Stories programme will also draw to a close at the end of the month. The last session will be on the 25th of August at 11am. More information about our usual story time and small time sessions can be found here.
Did you know we have a new eBook and audiobook app called BorrowBox? It has a great selection of children's material including The Margaret Mahy Collection, read by Margaret Mahy. More info about the app can be found here.
We had a very special visitor at Junior Book Club this week - Lotto the lamb. The children (and librarians) were very excited to meet 6 day old Lotto. Book club is for 8-12 year olds to meet weekly with other kids who love books. They get to see all the new books before they hit the shelves! And, of course, fun activities. Come along on Tuesdays at 3.30 during term time.
