Thank-You for Being a Friend
The Friends of the Library have been busy this year running Book Sales, organising author talks and running their programme of Sunday Speakers.
All of the money raised through these ventures is used by the Friends in various ways. Here are a just a few of the ways the Friends have supported the Library this year.
Our Sunday Live Music has been growing in popularity and will be back for 2019. These performances are held on the first Sunday of every month and are kindly supported by the Friends.
The new toys in the children’s library have been a popular addition this year. We love seeing the creative ways children (and parents!) play with these.
The Friends have also purchased lovely new books for the Children’s Summer Reading Challenge. Each child who signs up for the challenge receives a free books which they can select themselves.
Throughout the year we’ve been lucky enough to welcome some amazing authors to the Library this year. In March the Friends kicked off their Sunday Speakers with Dame Fiona Kidman who talked about her new book ‘This Mortal Boy.’
In May we welcomed Paul Cleave who spoke at our Murder in the Library event, and in April we were lucky enough to have Graeme Lay speak twice as part of the Heritage Festival. He kicked things off on the Saturday talking with Stephanie Price about writing historical fiction, and returned the next day as a solo speaker discussing his new book 'A travel guide to Captain James Cook's New Zealand.'
We are always so thankful for the hard work and support provided by this organisation and want to say a big THANK-YOU on behalf of everyone at the Library and the wider Nelson community.
