National Novel Writing Month 2021

National Novel Writing Month, known as NaNoWriMo, is the opportunity for writers to focus on their writing, with the goal of writing a novel of 50,000 words within the month of November. Any writer of any genre, skill or experience level can sign up at NaNoWrimo and connect with other writers throughout the world and on a local level, to support eachother in reaching that goal.

This is one competition where we can all win - by reaching that goal of 50,000 words! Sounds like a lot of work? Many writers do achieve this each year, and some even go on to publish their books! Ever heard of The Night Circus  by Erin Morgenstern, Water for Elephants  by Sara Gruen or Wool by Hugh HoweyThese books, and others, were initially written during NaNoWriMo - it is possible!

This year, we have set up a special Discord server for writers of all kinds to connect during NaNoWriMo, and throughout the year! A space for writers in Nelson/ Tasman to share resources and seek support when the plot goes awry, and to catch up with events happening at Level 1 and Level 2.

Email library@ncc.govt.nz to receive an invite and instructions for setting up a user profile for Discord - you can use your pen name!
