Cross Stitch for the Soul by Emma Congdon

I love this new offering from Emma Congdon – Cross Stitch for the Soul.
20 different sayings / reminders to inspire and encourage. Even if you never get around to lifting a needle the book is an interesting browse for the sayings alone.

I love this new offering from Emma Congdon – Cross Stitch for the Soul.
20 different sayings / reminders to inspire and encourage. Even if you never get around to lifting a needle the book is an interesting browse for the sayings alone.

The presentation is excellent, and the book starts with a double spread showing a mini version of each design – which serves as a visual contents page. Each saying / design then has several pages devoted to it which comprise a short explanation, list of materials, another beautiful full-page photograph of the finished work, followed by full colour cross stitch charts that are very easy to read and include the stitch count along the axes, making for easier stitching.

Emma has included a very clear and useful explanation of the difference between easy-to-stitch Aida fabric and other fabric options, and her stitching instructions are great, which makes this book really accessible to beginners.

There are a number of smaller, quicker to stitch, projects included too – I love ‘Do small things with great love!’ a quote from Mother Theresa.
