Family History Month is observed annually during the month of August across New Zealand and Australia. It's a time to reflect on our roots and celebrate our unique histories and identities. It's an opportunity to showcase the significant resources that are available to researchers of family history.
Piece by Piece: A Libraries Community Textile Art Project
This project invites people of all ages to reflect on their own family history and contribute a small creative textile piece that reflects their whakapapa, treasured memories, heritage, traditions, and connections.
Drop your finished piece into any of the library branches by Wednesday, 30 September.
Community Textile Workshop
Begin your contribution for our Community Textile Art Project during this after-hours workshop.
Some materials will be available, including sewing machines, but feel free to bring along any treasured fabrics, such as an old tablecloth or pieces of clothing, or photocopies of family photos (laser printed). Try your hand at image transfer onto fabric, or crochet a symbol of your heritage, or really whatever you can think up!

Live demonstrations in the Learning Centre will be projected on screen, making it easy to follow along and see how these resources work.
