Join us for Matariki 2021 with displays, crafts, talks and events that celebrate the Māori New Year.

All activities will be held in the Elma Turner Library unless otherwise stated.

      • Traditional Manu Aute, Māori kite making - Saturday 3 July, 2-3pm

A Matariki craft activity  for all the family. Bookings required by phoning 035468100 or emailing   library@ncc.govt.nz

      • Seed and plant swap  -  Monday 5 July - Saturday 10 July 

Bring in your surplus plants and seeds and swap them for something different.  

      • Contemporary Poi making and weaving activity - Tuesday 6 July 12-1pm and Stoke Library -   Tuesday 6 July, 3:30pm-4.30pm

Emma Haruru will lead a craft activity where you can make your own poi and piece of weaving. Bookings required by phoning 035468100 or emailing  library@ncc.govt.nz 

      • Riverside Walk - Saturday 10 July, 10am - 2pm

Explore the plants and river life around the Elma Turner Library and discover their traditional names, stories and uses. The walk will conclude with shared kai back at the library.  Children must be supervised. Bookings required by phoning 035468100 or emailing   library@ncc.govt.nz 

      • Author talk   - Hilary and John Mitchell - Sunday 11 July, 2-3 

Join Hilary and John Mitchell as they discuss their latest book: He Ringatoi o Ngā Tupuna: Isaac Coates and his Māori Portraits
